Biting pop-genius from NARCOTIC HEARTS with double A-side single ‘Til It All Goes Up In Flames/Jupiter Liar,’ released next week via the Perfect Pop Co-Op label, and first release from November’s ‘Manufactured Tension’ album.

The sub-three-minute track ‘Til It All Goes Up In Flames’ now appears hauntingly prophetic, having been written well before the recent catastrophic wildfires seen across the UK and EU.

“The lead single ‘Til It All Goes Up In Flames wasn’t written with climate change specifically in mind, though it may appear that way on first listen,” said vocalist and lyricist, Andreas Vanderbraindrain. “However, the summer heat and destruction of so much UK habitat due to wildfires have given it a previously unintended relevance and focus. From our own personal perspective, video plans had to be changed too. We drove to Wales specifically to shoot the film with the original concept involving a real live bonfire.”

“And the parallels between today’s polarised world and the disorientating time of my teenage years – that feeling of deep-rooted global uncertainty and new technology replacing the old – leave me grieving over the realisation that lessons weren’t learned, and nothing will really change until…”

Accompanying the lead single is a cover of Marc Bolan’s ‘Jupiter Liar,’ the band’s favourite T. Rex release, originally included on the 1976 album, ‘Futuristic Dragon.’

Ahead of their new album, Manufactured Tension, the ever excitable NARCOTIC HEARTS release its lead single, ‘Til It All Goes Up In Flames. It is a track that inadvertently hits a chord following this heat blasted, fire ravaging summer, though the band says it was not written with climate change as its inspiration, but there is no denying it has a scorching punk heat to it that sizzles in the ears.

The forthcoming Manufactured Tensionexplores themes of “Disorientation, Helplessness and Change” and there is no escaping the emotional anxiety and discord within ‘Til It All Goes Up In Flames. Produced by Gary ‘Sticks’ Hawkins, the song immediately stirred attention with its punk feral riffs, a lure quickly sparking the full rock and punk pop body of incitement to erupt.

The rhythmic stimulus of bassist Rogerio Marauder and drummer Jord bears an ADAM AND THE ANTS nagging at times with the melodic instincts of the song bringing Marco Pirroni like drama to the moment through the guitars of David Beans and Andreas Vanderbraindrain, yet it is a song that is only NARCOTIC HEARTS rich and individual. With Vanderbraindrain vocally as much a showman like entertainer as an emotive instigator of thought and conviction as he heads the explosive adventure, this is a song that got under the skin in quick-order.

Over recent years, we have come to expect NARCOTIC HEARTS to stir up our punk and alt rock instincts and ‘Til It All Goes Up In Flames certainly follows suit, with the single’s art punk cured B-side cover of Marc Bolan’s Jupiter Liar firmly adding to the joy. The single also suggests that Manufactured Tension could be the band’s most explosive and compelling offering yet, their hinting something we have also learnt to not ignore. – Ringmaster Review
